World Book Day

The children had the opportunity to share books in all areas throughout our learning environment, fiction non fiction, comics dual language and mulcticultural …. with their peer, adults and parents. Supporting resources encouraged the childrens emergent writing marking up their own stories and sharing them with the group. We love books at acton playgroup.

The routines of books, stories, songs and rhymes helps to build pre-literacy skills as well as providing a special time for you to build strong and loving relationships with your children. Children are not only better prepared for starting school but maintain that advantage throughout their first years if primary education. We have also introduced a library loan scheme for the children with their very own Acton Playgroup library card. To link into world book day Kim has made a pledge to the book start trust who celebrate their 20th birthday in 2012. Kim pledges to read 20 books a week with her children (easily done with our children). Making the most of books extending their knowledge and understanding of the vocabulary within the books. Posing the questions I wonder….. and praising good questions! Happy reading

Healthy Eating Stay and Play Session

The aim of the session was for the parents to experience the activities with their child supporting their language, extending their knowledge and simply enjoying the time to get messy in their childs learning environment.

The children had the opportunity to make their own healthy lunch using a range of tools and equipment.

They looked closely at the marks and patterns made by painting and printing with fruit and vegetables, sang songs and shared books, created potato families using dough and natalie our school cook came along with some yummy food for us to try followed by a school dinner with staff, mummy’s and children.

National Story Telling Week

The children all came dressed as a character from their favourite story. They made story dens and acted out their stories with their peers.

Chinese New Year – Celebrating the Year of the Dragon

The children decided which animal they would like to be and had a race, the pig won!!

We made our own dancing dragon and used drums to dance to and celebrated by making and tasting chinese foods.

Christmas – Happy Birthday Jesus

Bonfire Safety Stay & Play

The stay and play session had clear aims to each of the activities for the parents and carers to understand how our activities link to the early years foundation stage.

We also had our local PCSO come along to chat to the children about keeping safe while enjoying firewords. I hope she enjoyed the chocolates we gave her as a thank you!!

Blow paints, splatting paintings, rocket creations, sparkling sparklers and mark making words which describe fireworks.
Followed by a yummy lunch!!

These sessions allow parents and carers the opportunity to play alongside their children, we aim to assist them in how to support their play with open ended questions and positive language.

French Session

Mrs starkey started our French session on Wednesday morning. We all learnt how to say lots of animals in French, counted and sang a song about a little windmill. It was such a lovely sunny day we enjoyed our session in our outdoor learning environment.

The children have shown great enjoyment playing our new hand bells, finding out about their diffeent sounds, watching and following instructions of making their bell louder then quieter.

Lisa had so much fun making playdough with the chidlren this week, they used so many skills, following a recipe, measuring their ingredients, making the ingredients and using their senses to descibe the textures and chnages that happened.
