British Values and Prevent

According to Ofsted, the following British Values must be incorporated and demonstrated through EYFS learning and play:

• Democracy.
• The rule of law.
• Individual Liberty.
• Mutual Respect.
• Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.

Everybody at Acton Playgroup is treated equally and has equal rights.

We support the children with their PSED ( personal, social and emotional development) by giving them opportunities to develop their self-confidence and self-awareness, to make choices and decisions about what they want to explore and how they are going to use the resources accessible to them. We support and encourage the children to share resources and to take turns and to make decisions together.
The children are taught how to negotiate and to be accepting of the rules and boundaries of the setting.

Children are supported in understanding that rules matter and in learning right from wrong and also in being able to deal with consequences.

We help children to develop a positive sense of themselves. Every time we provide children with different opportunities we are helping them to develop their self- knowledge ,self- esteem and to increase their confidence in their abilities. At Acton Playgroup we give all children the time and space to explore the language of feelings and responsibiity ,using books, props and puppets to supoport this and the children are given the opportunity to reflect on their differences and to understand that everyone is different and we are all free to have our own opinions.

The children are supported in learning to treat others as we would want to be treated and how to be part of a community and form relationships with others.

Different views, faiths, cultures and races are valued and respected in the setting and we encourage children to engage with their wider community.

We take part in trips to the church and will be visiting a nursing home for the elderly.  We also focus on different celebrations and dates throughout the year such as Chinese New Year, Shrove Tuesday, Easter, St.George's Day, American Independence Day, Harvest, Diwali, Bonfire Night, Rremembrance Day, Christmas, Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
We invite parents and carers to our stay and play sessions.

All the staff model to the children  how to be polite and respectful of others, learning to say please and thank you and being kind to our peers at all times.
